GRWL – ‘Facetime’

Dublin based songstress GRWL has provided the perfect chilled track for your cosy autumn/winter playlists, so wrap up, grab a cup of tea, and soak up every lush note. It is hard to believe that this is the artist’s sophomore single, as the bedroom pop singer exudes confidence and maturity in the track.

‘Facetime’ features a breadth of lulling and dreamy melodies, as GRWL shows off her unique vocal that is just as soft as it is husky. Her instantly recognisable tone is utterly captivating, and allows listeners to really get lost in her music. The track’s lyricism delves into a particularly relatable topic of trying to keep relationships alive via technology. Missing loved ones has definitely become a universal feeling since the pandemic hit, and the idea of taking comfort from that virtual connection is perfectly captured in the track, as GRWL sings “so I call you on facetime making sure you’re alright”.
Taking influence from the likes of SZA and H.E.R., GRWL adds a splash of R&B to her soft pop sound, creating an effortless vibe that keeps you coming back for more. Embedding her own personal experiences into her lyrics, GRWL keeps things authentic and honest. With big plans over the next year, we can expect to see GRWL releasing many more musical gems, and getting back to performing at gigs very soon.
